Home Owners
If you are a first-time homeowner and meet specific criteria, you may be eligible to receive a first-time home owners grant. This one-off grant’s benefits vary between states because of additional grants, stamp duty exemptions, fees, or other criteria.
Criteria
There are many criteria you need to meet to be eligible for a FHOG. A complete list of requirements for your state can be found online or by contacting your state’s government. A few essential criteria are as follows:
- All applicants for the grant are natural people and are not companies or other trusts.
- One or more of the applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of Australia or New Zealand.
- All the applicants for the grant must be 18 years of age or older.
- The application property’s total value cannot exceed the cap amount determined by the state.
Application
Your grant application requires you to attach several documents, including:
- The property’s contract of sale
- Identification documentation such as a birth certificate or a passport
- Additional documentation, such as marriage, divorce or death certificates to comply with your state’s eligibility criteria.
All documents must be certified by an authorised person and must include the following information:
- The certifier’s full legal name
- The certifier’s position or qualification as an authorised person
- An applicable registration number (in some cases)
- A signature and date of certification
- A clear and distinct certification clause note
When you complete your application, please make sure that your writing is clear, legible and in black ink. Please include your full legal name as found on your birth certificate or passport, as well as any former or maiden names you have had.
